AIR FORCE side, Chapungu registered an important 2-1 win over Jessie Mine away in Gwanda in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter on Saturday. The win took Chapungu’s unbeaten run to 21 matches and just three wins away from the championship to gain promotion into the top-flight league.
With the airmen assured of nine points from Tripple B Academy, Gwanda Ramblers and Kwekwe Pirates who were expelled from the league and with 73 points they will have an unassailable lead over their closest rivals, Town United.
However, Chapungu mentor, John Nyikadzino despite the fine run called on his players to remain focused until they have gained promotion.
“People are already saying that we have gained promotion and there is a danger that this might affect the players. I have told the players to guard against complacency and that we will celebrate when we have finished the job,” he said.
In other matches, Chrome Stars edged Vumbachikwe 1-0 in a tightly contested match at Chrome.
The win consolidated the chrome miners’ third spot on the log where they have so far amassed 40 points from 21 matches and are 17 points adrift of log leaders Chapungu.
Hwahwa registered their first win on the field of play since the second half of the season resumed in August when they beat Gaths Mine 1-0 in their own backyard while Tongogara who have been rocked by boardroom squabbles put their problems aside to beat NM Academy 2-1 away in Mvuma.
Former Premiership outfit, Hardbody failed to travel to Beitbridge where they were to face Town United and as a result the latter were awarded the match on a 3-0 scoreline.
