AIRMEN Chapungu return to their favourite hunting ground Ascot Stadium in Gweru where their credentials will be tested by table toppers, Chicken Inn today in a Castle Lager Premiership clash.“Waru Waru” go into the match smarting from a 0-2 loss away to Harare City last weekend effectively ending their purple patch that had stretched for eight games.
Chicken Inn has a four-point lead at the top of the Premiership table with 26 points from 12 matches followed by defending champions Dynamos on 22 points.
Despite their fine run, Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas conceded that today’s encounter would be tough as Chapungu seem to have turned Ascot Stadium into their citadel losing only one match at the venue since the beginning of the season.
“We’re preparing for a bruising battle against Chapungu but we hope to come up with a positive result. Chapungu is always difficult to beat at home and have been doing well lately so football fans in Gweru should expect a good game of football,” said Antipas.
The Gamecocks will be missing the services of Ben Nyahunzvi through injury and suspended left back Design Lungu.
Chicken Inn lost 1-3 to the same opponents in their last meeting and will be hoping that Gweru born, Edmore Chirambadare comes to the party as he makes a return to Ascot Stadium since breaking into the topflight league.
Chapungu’s John Nyikadzino said he is expecting a tough match but was confident of claiming maximum points.
“It’s going to be a tough match but we’ve prepared for the match.
“Chicken Inn knows what to expect at Ascot Stadium so they better come prepared,” said the experienced gaffer who will be banking on the form of the duo of Tinei Chitora and former Dynamos striker, Allen Tavarwisa for goals.
However, Chapungu will be without the services of former Shabanie Mine midfielder Marvellous Dikinya who is injured.
