Chapungu too strong for Buffaloes

CHAPUNGU put up one of their best performances of the season when they massacred Buffaloes in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter played at Ascot Stadium yesterday. The win saw Chapungu leaping to fifth position with 35 points just a point ahead of Harare City and Caps United who both have a game in hand. Chapungu got their goals from Tineyi Chitora who scored a brace, Allen Tavarwisa and an own goal by Buffaloes defender Farai Banda.
The visitors got their consolation from lanky midfielder Hillary Madziwanyika.

Waru Waru, as the Gweru outfit is affectionately known, opened the scoring in 32 minutes when the rotund striker, Allen Tavarwisa fired home past Chenge Tandadzai in goals for Buffaloes after being fed by ageless midfielder Philip Marufu.

Chapungu gaffer, John Nyikadzino was impressed with the team’s performance and expressed confidence that they will finish in the top eight.
“I am impressed with the way we played today, we managed to utilise most of the chances that came our way.

“However, I feel that we could have won by a wider margin if we were accurate in front of goal. This comes as a boost for us ahead of our encounter with Harare giants Dynamos in the Chibuku Super Cup final.

“We hope we will keep the momentum and continue getting positive results,” he said.
Buffaloes coach, Saul Chaminuka blamed both his charges and the referee for the humiliating defeat. He however, conceded that he has never got positive results playing in Ascot.
“I feel that the second goal that Chapungu scored was a clear offside. That goal changed the complexion of the game and killed the spirit of my players. Sorry to say but that the nature of football in Zimbabwe where referees also play football and not the players,” he fumed.
