TONGO Charamba was crowned the 2015 professional golfer of the year at the awards held at Warren Hills Golf Club yesterday. Charamba, who was having a torrid time on the Sunshine Tour, was crowned ahead of Brendon de Jonge, the United States-based golfer who won the award last year.

He edged William Lake and Brian Gondo despite the former finishing as the best-placed Zimbabwean in the Zimbabwe Open.

Lake is also the best-placed Zimbabwean on the Sunshine Tour order of merit.

The Zimbabwe Golf Association awards also saw Loice Chingono crowned the best female golfer of the year.

Kieren Vincent was rewarded for his hard work after impressing on both the junior and amateur circuit and was named the Junior Player of the Year.

Visitor Mapwanya beat Stuart Krog for the best amateur golfer of the year award. Staying the Course, a book by Kevin Kerry, won the best publisher of the year beating The Herald and Newsday to the award.
