TONGO CHARAMBA dreamt of playing at the US$6,5 million Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City next month. However, the Zimbabwe golfer, who needed to win the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open to do that, failed in his bid.

In the build-up to the Cape Town Open, from October 31 to November 3, Charamba dared to dream.

“How about making the top 15 at the Monday qualifier at Cape Town Open, make the cut and go on to win the event?” Charamba said on his Facebook page.

“Prize!!! Forget the R500 000 1st prize but the bonus of teeing up in the Nedbank Million Dollar Challenge at Sun City!

“Well, I (have) been doing my bit, leaving GOD to take care of the rest.”

However, his dreams could not come true.

Sun International announced that the winner of the 2014 Lion of Africa Cape Town Open will receive direct entry into this year’s Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Charamba still leads the Zambezi Tour money list after playing nine tournaments this year.

He is now on US$8 527 after taking part in the nine events.

The seasoned campaigner made only US$296 in the Harare Open but still dominates the money list and order of merit.

Ignatious Mketekete is on second place on US$7 910.

He has taken part in eight events this season.

Golden Pilsener Harare Open winner Robson Saurombe is now in third place after pocketing US$6 728 in nine tournaments.

Saurombe had made around US$3 000 before last week’s event and then pocketed US$3 600.

Dale Howie of Borrowdale Brooke is sitting in fourth place while Harare Open runner-up Mohammed Mandhu is now fifth.
