CHARI BLAZES TON! Amakhosi stun Lions in 37-run rout

BRIAN Chari lit up Masvingo Sports Club with a sizzling 117 that powered Amakhosi Cricket Club 1 to a 37-run win over Methane Lions in a National Premier League clash on Saturday.

The veteran opener, standing in as skipper, smashed his ton off 105 balls and shared a 117-run stand with Bright Phiri, who fell hit wicket for 44. Backed by Pascal Murungi’s 47 and Adrian Mupembe’s unbeaten 29, Amakhosi piled 282/7 in their 45 overs.

In reply, Methane Lions were bowled out for 245 in 39.5 overs despite a valiant 94 from Bright Njanji. Tawanda Maposa was lethal with the ball, grabbing 4/41, while Talent Dzikiti chipped in with 3/30 as Amakhosi sealed their seventh win in nine matches to climb third on the log with 14 points.

Elsewhere, Queens Sports Club roared back with an 84-run demolition of Chiredzi Cricket Club. Former Zimbabwe Under-19 star Munashe Chimusoro struck 92 while Tanatswa Bechani added 64 in their total of 266. Veteran seamer Chris Mpofu then rolled back the years with 4/25 as Chiredzi crumbled for 182.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi 2’s woes deepened after they slumped to a six-wicket defeat against Alexandra Sports Club.
