FROM commanding the dance floor to carving out his own space in Zimbabwe’s music industry, budding artiste Kissmore ZW is turning his passion for dance into a promising musical career.
Born Mazwenkosi Mpofu, the amapiano and Afro-pop singer and songwriter hails from Lusulu, Lupane, and has ancestral roots in Engamu, Tsholotsho. Having started out as a dancer in 2020, he ventured into music recording in 2025, drawing on his performance experience and love for dance music to shape his sound.
issmore ZW said his journey in entertainment began on the dance floor rather than in a recording studio.
“In 2020, I started as a dancer with Lupane Big Shows, performing rhumba and learning stagecraft, crowd control and performance discipline. This background is evident in my energetic live performances today.
“In 2025, I officially transitioned from dancing to recording music, bringing my township experiences and love for dance music into my sound.
“My musical style blends amapiano log drums with smooth Afro-pop melodies to create music that is both danceable and emotionally engaging. I record exclusively at Stormza Audio Works under the guidance of producer Stormza, who has helped shape my signature sound,” he said.
Kissmore ZW made his breakthrough with the single Themba Mina, featuring Zaza Nation Entertainment. The collaboration strengthened his relationship with the Bulawayo-based collective and introduced him to a wider audience.
The song became popular in Bulawayo and beyond, earning him an award at the Awakening Greatness Events Awards.
As a live performer, Kissmore ZW said he was working to establish himself across the region.
“I have performed at several popular venues and events, including Cowdray Park, Makhandeni, Nkulumane, Sagemore and the iconic Hangout at BAC Leisure, a popular Bulawayo nightlife spot. I have also performed in Nkayi at the prestigious koDakamela Awards.
“My ability to command the stage comes from my background as a dancer.
“Beyond my music, I have collaborated with some of Bulawayo’s finest talents, including Tripple M, Malacoste, Msindoe and V.N.K Touchmarn. I have also worked closely with my producer, Stormza.
“I am currently focusing on releasing singles to grow my music catalogue and build my fan base,” he said.
Kissmore ZW is set to release his debut EP in February 2027. The project is expected to showcase his growth from a dancer in Lupane to an artiste with national ambitions.
With his roots firmly planted in his culture and a sound influenced by township life, Kissmore ZW is looking to make his mark on Zimbabwe’s music scene.
