Charlie Kay collaborates with Gemma, Nyovest

UK-BASED artist, Charlie Kay, has collaborated with Gemma Griffiths and top South African rapper Cassper Nyovest, on a single titled Solo.

It will be released on Friday.

In an interview with H-Metro, Charlie Kay said Cassper Nyovest, who was on his London tour, was impressed with the collaboration he was working on with Gemma, after he invited the rapper to the studio.

The chemistry between Charlie Kay and Gemma seems to be working wonders since they also have a refreshing love collabo, titled Murudo, which was well appreciated by music lovers.

“Gemma and I have known each other for a while and were working on a new collabo in the studio.

“When Cassper came down for his London show we linked up in the studio.

“I played him a few demos as we were vibing, and as soon as he heard Solo, which had Gemma on the hook, it was a done deal.

“In less than an hour he had put down his verse and we literally shot the video two days before he flew out.”

Charlie Kay said it was a dream come true to collaborate with Cassper.

“I have always been a Cassper fan from way back and it has always been my dream to one day just meet him.

“However, now to have a song with him just shows with a dream, plus hard work, anything is possible,” he told H-Metro.

The Murudo singer said the song Solo was inspired by a new dawn in his life, while realising the growth and expansion in his art and business side.

“Solo signifies a new era in my life.

“I have now grown up, not just as a man but also as an artist , entrepreneur and label executive.

“So, around me are a number of amazing people who continue to push and elevate me.

Solo is all about me and my crew, we roll together through it all, hence the line ‘you will never see me solo’.”

Solo will be the first song off his debut album called The Prelude.

He hopes this project will elevate him to the next level.

Solo is my first release off my debut project called The Prelude.

“Like the title suggests, this is just the beginning.

“I’m hoping the track will pave the way for the rest of the project.

“I’m a young African man with a dream to make it beyond the stars so, with Solo, I hope to make it to the clouds,” said Charlie Kay.

Murudo, featuring Gemma, is the track that played a major role in introducing Charlie Kay to the Zimbabwean audience.

He is the one behind Gemma’s last project A Girl From Harare.
