THE Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGI Zimbabwe)’s 2025 Annual Conference kicks off here in Victoria Falls today.

The two day conference is being held under the theme: “Inspire, Innovate, Sustain: Charting the Course for Zimbabwe’s Economic Rebound”.

The gathering comes at a critical time for the nation and the profession, offering a platform for governance and accountancy experts to contribute meaningfully to national economic transformation.

In an interview with Zimpapers yesterday, CGI Zimbabwe chief executive and secretary, Dr Lovemore Gomera, spoke on the significance of the conference.

“This year’s Annual Conference comes at a defining moment for our Institute and the profession. The theme reflects our conviction that governance and accountancy professionals must be central to the country’s transformation,” he said.

“As an Institute, we are making steady progress in rolling out digital learning innovations through our learning management system, modernising our curriculum to align with global standards while remaining relevant to Zimbabwe and embedding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into our programmes.

“We are also deepening our support for public sector professionalisation and financial management reforms in partnership with Government and regional bodies,” he added. “These initiatives, though still in progress, are laying the foundations for a stronger economy and a more ethical profession. The Annual Conference is, therefore, more than a gathering, it is a platform for bold ideas, practical solutions, and collective resolve.

“It’s here that we inspire one another, innovate in the face of new challenges, and sustain the values of transparency, accountability, and integrity, which are vital for Zimbabwe’s economic rebound and long-term development,” said Dr Gomera.

The two-day event will feature influential speakers and pivotal discussions.
Day one, themed “Ignitioning Transformation through Governance, Innovation, and Sustainability,” will include a welcome address by Dr Gomera, a presidential address by Judith Buzuzi, and a keynote speech by the Minister of Women Affairs Small and Medium Enterprises and Community Development, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, on global lessons in economic revival.

The day will continue with expert panels on corporate governance, ethics, and strategic partnerships, followed by sessions on regulation, risk management, and the critical topic of ESG and sustainability reporting aimed at unlocking Africa’s natural capital.

Day two, under the theme “Driving Growth, Innovation, and Institutional Excellence,” will delve into practical economic drivers.

Sessions will explore access to finance, investment perspectives from the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA), and enhancing SME performance through governance and innovation.

Further highlights include a discussion on the role of the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) and a crucial session on building cyber-resilient organisations with a focus on AI and machine learning.

The conference will culminate with a panel on emerging trends in tax, auditing and accounting before closing remarks and a formal dinner.

This conference is set to be a catalyst for dialogue and action, uniting professionals in a shared commitment to fostering transparency, accountability and integrity for a sustainable economic future for Zimbabwe.
