Chatunga, accomplice remanded in custody . . . face two more charges

Chatunga Mugabe (28) the son of the late former President Robert Mugabe and his accomplice, Tobias Matonhodze Mugabe (33), have been remanded in custody to March 3 for bail application at the Alexandra Magistrate Court, in Johannesburg South Africa.

The two suspects who were charged of attempted murder upon their arrest on Thursday now face two more charges – defeating the ends of justice and illegal possession of a firearm.

The shooting of an employee happened at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.

The alleged victim aged 23 years is reported to be in a critical condition.

However, two additional charges of defeating the ends of justice and illegal possession of a firearm have been added after the police allegedly could not locate from the scene the firearm that was used to commit the offense.

Before appearing in country early morning, South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson for Gauteng, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhuwi, said the firearm had not been found as yet.

“The two suspects aged 28 and 33 years will be facing charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice since the firearm has not been found. They will be appearing today at this court (Alexandra magistrate court). The docket will be brought to this court and we are expecting them to appear anytime soon once the court proceedings start,” she told journalists.

So far the police managed to recover spent cartridges at the scene and they are allegedly yet to find the firearm used in the shooting.

The motive behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained.
