AMBITIOUS Hardrock FC have moved to the top of the Zifa Central Region after a 1-0 win over Blanket Mine on Saturday while former leaders, Sheasham suffered a 3-2 defeat away to MSU FC.
Hardrock have 70 points from 28 matches in the 18-team league while Sheasham are a point behind.
The new leaders now look set to utilise their impressive Chahwanda Stadium in the Premier Soccer League next season, especially following developments in the Sheasham camp.
Following the results on Saturday, Sheasham issued a statement announcing their withdrawal from the league with six rounds of matches remaining.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the withdrawal of both Sheasham FC and Sheasham Gweru Queens from their respective leagues.
‘‘This decision has been made due to the ongoing issue of an uneven playing field, which compromises the integrity of the competition in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League (ZCR SL).
“Despite our repeated concerns regarding poor officiating and other related issues, we have seen these matters ignored by the ZCRSL.
‘‘Consequently, we believe there is no justification for our continued participation in a competition that appears to be predetermined.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our beloved supporters, partners, and sponsors for their unwavering support during this time.
‘‘Your commitment has been invaluable to us,” read the statement from Sheasham.
