CHAWINGA SMASHES US FOOTBALL RECORD

Malawian Temwa Chawinga has become the US’ National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) record scorer in a single season.

The 26-year-old netted her 19th goal for Kansas City in a 1-0 league game win over Bay FC on Saturday.

The 35-metre rocket propelled the Malawian into the record books of US women’s football.

She overtook the previous record of 18 goals in a single NWSL season held by Chicago Red Stars player Sam Kerr since 2019.

Temwa leads the scoring charts after 24 league games in her debut season at Kansas where she joined from Chinese Women’s Super League side Wuhan University FC.

Temwa is following in the footsteps of her older sister Tabitha, who is among the nominees for the Ballon d’Or Feminin award. — SuperSport.
