About two months ago, Vincent Chawonza tendered his resignation as secretary general of the Dynamos development committee, and on Tuesday, he bounced back as the club’s vice-chairman.
Speaking on his appointment, Chawonza said he feels his contribution to the new structure is poised to make a positive impact compared to previous ones.
“I recently resigned from the club, but I have just been brought back. I am a Dynamos son and when you wholeheartedly love the club, you will be interested in what happens there.
“I was not happy with the way we were conducting business and I also probably saw that my contribution wouldn’t make an impact with the structures that were there.
“Not that it was bad or I am finger-pointing, but I feel that getting another shot before the season kicks off will help bring back the glory days to our club,” he said.
Chawonza said he will work to bring transparency to the day-to-day activities of the club, as he believes they have to be highly professional to monetise the club.
“Knowing that as the vice chairman, the human resources will be directly under me. There should be clarity at the club on who does what, when and how.
“Bringing some business principles that have worked for us in industry to ensure our yesteryear glory days return is our mandate.
“No one is an island of knowledge and no one knows everything. We will bring a listening ear as well. We will try to give our supporters an opportunity to meet the technical team and the players and talk to them directly so that our coaches and captains can explain certain things to them.
“This will ensure our supporters will be fully aware, for instance, when a certain player is not playing whether it will be a disciplinary issue or an injury issue. So, one thing I want to see is openness between the club and its supporters,” he said.
“When I worked with the juniors at Dynamos, I learnt a lot of things that need direct change. There was a lack of cohesion from the junior structures to the senior team. Now one of our senior coaches at the club is overseeing the club.
“The senior executive now has to make a deliberate move to support our junior structures as they should be a feeder to the first team. The mandate of the junior structure has to be recognised.
“The junior structure executive was operating on its own then there would be joint meetings to get the senior team’s vision to cascade down to the junior team structures,” he said.
