THE Mbare community has received a massive boost after free medical check-ups, affordable services and training programmes rolled into their neighbourhood yesterday.
The Mbare residents were being screened for diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
The gesture is courtesy of Discovery Ambulance Services, which is a brainchild of businessman, David Munowenyu.
DJ Fantan, who hosted the event said:
“Ambulance services are not meant for the elites and the rich only, you can also get the services of an Ambulance for just US$1.”
The company also provided wheelchairs, hampers, and crutches to the less privileged and people living with disabilities.
He launched a comprehensive medical outreach programme in Mbare in which he is offering free disease screenings and first aid training.
“Our goal is to provide quality healthcare to those who need it the most and improve standards of living by creating employment opportunities through our National Free First Aid Training programme,” said Munowenyu.
“Discovery Ambulance is offering training on First Aid and paramedic techniques to all, including those without five Ordinary levels. However, some advanced programmes may require qualifications.
“We want to make our services accessible to everyone.
“By registering for just US$1, residents can get priority treatment in case of an emergency and their relatives will also be covered in case of issues like accidents.”
The outreach programme is expected to run for several days, and Discovery Ambulance plans to extend its services to other communities in future.
“We are committed to providing quality healthcare to all Zimbabweans.
“We hope to partner with other organisations to reach more communities and provinces.”
Discovery Ambulance’s National Free First Aid Training programme aims to create employment opportunities and improve standards of living.
“We are going to have a free training on July 27, at Hippodrome, in Braeside.”
Mbare residents expressed their gratitude for the medical outreach programme conducted by Discovery Ambulance.
“This outreach has been a blessing to our community, I didn’t know I had diabetes until I got tested today,” said one resident.
“I’m so grateful for this service, I can now seek treatment and live a healthier life.”
