The Cheetahs secured a shock 29-35 bonus point victory over the Sharks in Durban in their Super Rugby season opener on Saturday. The Cheetahs outscored the Sharks by four tries to two to secure their first opening round victory since 2007. The heavily favoured Sharks finished strongly but had a late try disallowed for a knock on which would have earned them a draw.
The Sharks lost skipper Bismarck du Plessis due to injury before the start of the match, with fly-half Pat Lambie taking over the captaincy duties.
The visitors, already without influential flanker Heinrich Brussow, then lost Springbok lock Lood de Jager inside the first ten minutes as the game began with plenty of disruptions. — SuperXV
