ZIMBABWE seamer Tinashe Panyangara inspired Chegutu as they maintained their winning streak with a one-wicket victory over Kwekwe in the MidWest Rhinos Domestic Lays Challenge cricket match at Chegutu Sports Club over the weekend. The win ensured that Chegutu now lead the eight-team league with two straight victories after they won their first game of the season.
Chegutu captain Paddington Mhondoro won the toss and decided to field and Bright Njanji and Tinashe Matufu shared four wickets each while Panyangara weighed in with two.
Eight teams — Gweru, Kadoma, Norton, Chinhoyi, Kwekwe, Kwekwe Queens, Redcliff and Chegutu — are taking part in the tourney which is being sponsored by Lays.
The event is also used to select first class cricket players for MidWest Rhinos but a number of established and emerging players have been taking part.
Karl Mumba, who toured India with the Under-19 team recently, and Taurai Musakanda, are some of the players featuring in the tournament.
The other matches saw Norton get the better of Gweru by 43 runs while Kadoma beat Chinhoyi by 20 runs.
The match between Kwekwe Queens and Redcliff was postponed.
Action will continue this weekend with several matches lined up.
