CHEGUTU Pirates held championship contenders Black Mambas to a goalless draw in a ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League Division One match at Morris Depot on Saturday.

Pirates are having a dream season after they had lost only once and Black Mambas are still to lose a match in 15 games.

Despite playing a game devoid of goals, Chegutu Pirates coach Emmanuel Day said it was a good result away from home and hailed his players for the display.

“I am happy with the point we have taken, especially from a team like Black Mambas who are playing very well. The boys did very well and our defence this season is solid which is helping us a lot.

“We are now looking forward to our next game and I hope we will continue with our fine form. We have another tough ask ahead against Herentals Under-20 again at Morris and we hope to do well again.

“It was one of the toughest games of the season, actually these two coming games, against Black Mambas and Herentals Under-20 are going to be defining moments in our league race this season.

“The point will take us far and we hope to finish the first round strongly then regroup. Already we have exceeded our target through hard work and the players are focused,” said Day.

The Municipality of Chegutu-sponsored side missed the services of influential midfielder Gift Mwinga who was serving a suspension.
