IT was far from a dream start for Castle Lager Premiership new boys,Chegutu Pirates who suffered a 0-1 loss at the hands of FC Platinum at Mandava on Saturday.
Juan Mutudza’s solitary strike was enough to secure maximum points for the four-time champions.
But, this scoreline will serve as a reminder that Pirates, who also answer to the names Dzinza and Zaire, are not pushovers.
Chegutu Pirates made their trip to Mandava with only 13 players, who had their registration papers ready for action.
And, the bulk of their first XI players are hoping to get their licences ready on their next assignment when they welcome ZPC Kariba.
By FC Platinum’s standards, Pirates did well to limit the damage.
This fixture also saw the club’s recruit, Aaron Dzangai finally making his PSL breakthrough after enduring a long walk.
It was an appearance that was six years in the making.
His first shot at this opportunity came to naught in 2018 when he nearly joined Triangle after making the cut in a month long trial.
He suffered a similar blow with Cranbourne Bullets before joining Ngezi Platinum Stars developmental side.
The club tried to loan him during the mid-season break last campaign to Green Fuel.
But, the two sides failed to reach an agreement leaving Dzangai with no option but to return to the team’s developmental side.
