Chegutu sewer to be redesigned

ZANU PF has directed the Public Works Department to look into the Chegutu Ward 1 sewer reticulation system with a view to redesigning it to end perennial sewer overflowing woes.

The decision follows numerous complaints from Chegutu Ward 1 residents who have, for ages, borne the brunt of perennial sewer bursts, exposing them to diseases.

The ward has been under the hands of the opposition since 2008, with residents claiming all four previous representatives had failed to address their plight.

Speaking during the Zanu PF campaign rally at Kaguvi Shopping Centre on Sunday for the ward’s by-election slated for February 21, the party’s National Political Commissar and Politburo member, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, said the party had directed the Local Government and Public Works Ministry to look at the sewer reticulation system in the ward.

“Our President, Cde Mnangagwa, wants every Zimbabwean to live under good conditions where they are not exposed to dangers and diseases,” he said.

“People in urban areas lacked information about the party’s developmental agenda, thereby voting for opposition in local councils, which has, however, seen deteriorated services.

“We will have engineers from the Public Works Department come to look for a temporary solution to the sewer menace.

“Sewer issues have to be addressed and we will see a redesign of the entire sewer system in the ward.”

As part of its developmental orientation drive, the ruling party, through the commissariat, drilled and installed a solarised borehole at the shopping centre to provide clean water to the community while a long-lasting solution to water challenges is being sought.

Provincial chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, urged Ward 1 residents to vote for Zanu PF, which she said was an action party.
