Chelsea agree £20m Luís deal

Chelsea have announced they have reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid over the transfer of the defender Filipe Luís for a fee understood to be around £20m.The Brazil left-back has been earmarked as a long-term replacement for Ashley Cole, who joined Roma this week.

“Chelsea can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of Filipe Luís,” read a statement on the club’s website. “The move is subject to the 28-year-old agreeing personal terms.

A statement on Atlético’s website said: “Atlético Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement to transfer the rights of Filipe Luís, pending a medical with the English club. The Brazilian player had told our club at the end of the campaign his willingness to join the London side.” — The Guardian
