When asked whether the Portugal flyer was happy at Real Madrid, Calderon told talkSPORT:
“Ronaldo said he was sad at the beginning of the season. I think the relationship with the current president is not a good one, maybe because the president doesn’t like the players he inherited
“There are not many teams that could afford to pay him what he deserves and who can pay Real Madrid what they are asking for. There are three clubs — Manchester City, PSG and Chelsea. I don’t think any other club is going to pay that amount of money for a player.
“They (Real) are going to negotiate the contract now and they will make a decision. It’s something we will know in a few weeks United have first option to sign Ronaldo if Real decide to sell and the Portugal star favours a return to Old Trafford.”
But Mourinho, with whom he has worked at the Bernabeu for the past three years, has added him to his list of premium targets.
Wayne Rooney, who would prefer to move to Chelsea, and Napoli striker Edinson Cavani are also wanted by Mourinho.
Ronaldo has spent four seasons at Real Madrid but has become frustrated by the lack of harmony at the club.
Although Mourinho is unlikely to be able to persuade all three forwards to move to Chelsea, the club intend to move swiftly this summer.
Mourinho’s relationship with Ronaldo was under scrutiny last weekend when the forward appeared to shout “**** you” at his coach after scoring his 200th goal for Real.
Madrid defender Sergio Ramos believes Gareth Bale would be right at home at the Bernabeu. There has been considerable speculation about the future of the Wales international after Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League, with Madrid the most likely destination.
Ramos said: “Gareth Bale is a Real Madrid-quality signing. He has had an exceptional season. He can punish any team in the world and has the footballing qualities we look for in Madrid.
