De Bruyne was carried off during the first half in Kuala Lumpur after hurting his knee as he scored the second goal of the night.
It did not stop Mourinho’s team storming to a comfortable win.
Bertrand Traore, Romelu Lukaku and Victor Moses scored the other goals and the Blues conceded in the 90th minute.
De Bruyne limped back out of the tunnel before the game ended and watched from a seat beside the pitch.
Asked about the injury to the young Belgian, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said: ‘When he was on the floor and asking for a change everyone on the bench thought the worst.
‘The first assessment by the doctor is that its not the ligaments for sure and if its something in the meniscus then it is a very small injury. We believe its not an important injury.
‘Hopefully not because the kid is a fantastic player and showing to you match after match and showing to me in training that he’s going to be a key man on the pitch.’
The 22-year-old has been one of the most positive aspects of the early pre-season sessions, impressing Mourinho with his incredible fitness levels and performing well in the games, wide on either flank and in the No.10 role where he started against a Malaysia XI, linking up well with Lukaku.
De Bruyne created the opener with a strong run down the right channel and a low cross which was dummied by Eden Hazard to allow Bertrand Traore to score, sliding a first-time shot into the corner with the inside of his left foot.
Traore was another who caught the eye. He is a tall and slender 17-year-old midfielder who is already a full international for Burkina Faso. Officially, he is a triallist without a contract at any club and he has caught the eye.
Mourinho started with him on the right but he prefers his left foot, drifting inside naturally into areas around the penalty box, which is where he was when he scored.
Four minutes later, Traore tested goalkeeper Farizal Marlias with another left-foot effort before attempting to beat him from 40 yards with an adventurous lob.
De Bruyne struck for the second as the half-hour approached, collecting a flick from Lukaku and lashing it past Marlias with great confidence only to then collide with the ‘keeper and crash to the turf.
He seemed to know instantly he was injured, signalling to the bench and was carried off with the club doctor carefully holding De Bruyne’s right knee.
Lukaku, who scored the only goal of the first pre-season friendly in Bangkok last week, made it 3-0 with a cool finish, seconds before half-time.
Mark Schwarzer was secure on his Chelsea debut and Mourinho made nine changes at half-time – only Hazard and Marco van Ginkel started both halves – and used 23 players in all.
Moses forced in the fourth late in the game before a late flurry from the home team. Mohd Fadhli Shas pulled a goal back with a header and Ashley Cole made a goal-line clearance in stoppage time.
Frank Lampard did not play. He is still out with a sore Achilles and is not certain to play the final game of this tour in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thusday – Mailonline
