CHEMICALS producing firm, Chemical Technology Africa has procured a US$25 000 manufacturing plant from China, which will see the company boosting output to at least 120 000 units of sanitisers and detergents per month by the end of the year.

The state-of-the-art technology that comprises a homogenizer, a mixing vessel, semi-automated fillers, reverse osmosis pure water system, and semi-automated capping plant arrived in the country early this month ahead of commissioning in August.

In an interview, Chemical Technology Africa operations manager Mr Liberty Nyathi said the commission of the new plant would see his organisation enjoying economies of scale as well as creating about 20 more jobs from the current nine workers.

“We have procured this new production line which will see our production capacities rising massively to a minimum of 120 000 units per month by the end of the year. The units that would be produced will range from 100ml to 5 litres of sanitisers and detergents. As a result of the investment, we will also be able to raise our employment numbers at the company to 30 from nine currently.”

At present, Chemical Technology Africa’s products are supplied locally to the retail sector in Bulawayo and the coming on board of the new production line will see the manufacturing firm increasing its market share to Harare and other parts of the country.

The company, which is based in Belmont Industrial Site manufactures produces detergents such as liquid soap, liquid hand wash, bleach and degreaser for domestic and industrial use. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company was also producing hand sanitisers with 70 percent alcohol content.

The World Health Organisation stipulates that hand sanitisers should be produced with an alcohol content of between 60 and 90 percent for it to kill viruses and bacteria. — @okazunga
