PROMINENT chess coach Kuda Sibanda has dedicated his Africa Day chess tournament win to rising chess stars.
The chess tournament which was hosted by the Bulawayo Chess Association was played on Friday at Montrose Girls High.
Sibanda, who last won a BCA tournament last year managed to win six and draw one from the seven games that he played.
“I am greatly impressed by the win. l worked hard for it but what matters most is that l didn’t play for myself, l played for the rising chess players, l feel like it’s my responsibility to motivate the players hence dedicating the win to them is one of the moves,” he said
The tournament which was organised as a way of celebrating Africa Day saw a number of participants coming in dressed in African attires.
Elvis Shora, the BCA chairman who also participated in the tournament and came out position 23 said he was impressed by the dress code of the participants and urged them to continue showcasing the unity of Africa
Kuda Sibanda guided the National University of Science and Technology men’s team to gold in the ZITUSU chess games that were played early this month in the city of Kings and Queens. He is also a coach at Baines Junior School.
