The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office said the Chevening programme provides a unique opportunity for future leaders to build a global network of continuing professional and personal significance.
It said the programme affords talented individuals the opportunity to establish social, cultural, academic or commercial partnerships with the UK.
The scholars are personally selected by British High Commissions and embassies throughout the world, sometimes in partnership with sponsoring organisations.
The British embassy in Harare has been running the Chevening Scholarships Programme in Zimbabwe since 1984 and to date over 150 Zimbabweans have benefited from the scheme.
Some of the beneficiaries now work as Members of Parliament, journalists, policy advisers while others occupy senior positions in commercial organisations.
In Zimbabwe, former scholars have become Government ministers, judges, leaders in the corporate sector and civil society.
Scholars for the Chevening Scholarship come from 116 countries worldwide and 700 scholarships were awarded in 2011-2012.
There are over 41 000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.
