ZIMBABWE has dominated the first session of the first Test against South Africa at Queens Sports Club on Saturday morning.
After they were sent in to field first, the Chevrons made full use of the morning conditions on the wicket that offered some bounce and carry for the seamers.
The visitors are on 90/4.
South Africa’s opening batter Tony De Zorzi struggled to play Blessing Muzarabani in the first over and was dropped in the third ball.
Tanaka Chivanga, replacing Wellington Masakadza in the sixth over, would go on to get De Zorzi caught at third slip by Brian Bennett for a 16-ball duck.
Chivanga got his second of the day through another catch at third slip, getting Mathew Breetzke on 13 runs off 45 balls.
The Chevrons quick proved a problem for the Proteas batters. Once again, he had another player nick, David Beddingham falling victim for a three-ball duck.
The wicket, Chivanga’s third, left South Africa reeling on 23/3 after 14.2 overs.
Zimbabwe’s fourth wicket was a result of poor communication between Wiaan Mulder and Lhuan-dre Pretorious which saw the former run out by a Muzarabani direct hit.
Zimbabwe would feel they should have South Africa five down after Pretorious got an inside edge to the wicketkeeper but was not given out.
Unfortunately, there is no DRS.
The teenager, making his Test debut, has played a counter attacking innings for the Proteas, with his 44 runs coming off 48 balls.
He is in the middle with another debutant, Dewald Brevis who is on 10 runs.
