FORMER Zimbabwe international cricketer, PJ Moor, has been named in Ireland’s 14-member squad for their upcoming historic one-off Test match against the Chevrons .
It is set for next week at Stormont, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The one-off match is scheduled for July 25 to 29 and will be the first red-ball match to be played between the two nations.
It will be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club.
The upcoming match will also be the first Test Match ever played in Northern Ireland and only the second Test Match in Ireland with the inaugural game being in 2018 against Pakistan.
Moor is part of the 14 men that have been entrusted to get the job done against Zimbabwe by Ireland Cricket national selector, Andrew White.
He said they will be looking for inspiration from their maiden Test victory, which came against Afghanistan, in March.
“We have a pretty settled squad for this Test match, just on the back of obviously winning the previous Test against Afghanistan.
:While there are lots of familiar names in there, I suppose the two names that stand out are the inclusion of Matthew Humphreys and Gavin Hoey.
“On the back of our first victory (against Afghanistan), we are definitely looking to back that up with another win.
“We are not looking to just pick a squad that will compete, we are looking at a squad that can actually win the Test match – by taking 20 wickets and scoring the runs that we need to score arguably in the first innings to set up the victory.”
Moor has 13 Test caps to his name, with eight of those coming in the Chevrons colours.
His last Test for Zimbabwe was back in 2018 against Bangladesh in Mirpur where he also registered his highest score of 83 runs.
