ZIMBABWE’S national cricket team, the Chevrons, will on Friday plunge into battle with Pakistan in their first One Day International (ODI) at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
Under the guidance of the team’s bowling coach Douglas Hondo, who will lead the side during their six-match limited overs tour of Pakistan after head coach Lalchand Rajput opted not to travel with the squad, the Chevrons will play their hosts in three ODIs and a plethora of T20 Internationals slated for between Friday and 10 November.
The two teams will play the ODIs in Multan and the T20s in Rawalpindi.
The entire tour will be played in a bio-bubble with no spectators.
The Zimbabwean squad boasts of experienced players that include captain Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Brendon Taylor, Sean Williams, all-rounder Elton Chigumbura, Sikandar Raza and Craig Ervine among others.
While there were also places for Blessing Muzarabani, Brian Chari, Wesley Madhevere, Faraz Akram, Tendai Chatara, Tendai Chisoro, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe and Wellington Masakadza in the Chevrons team, before their departure to the South Asian country, dust was raised over the exclusion of four Tuskers players, Ainsley Ndlovu, Christopher Mpofu, Charlton Tshuma and Ernest Masuku.
Zimbabwe’s tour to Pakistan marks the long-awaited return to international cricket to the former.
Consequently, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman, Tavengwa Mukuhlani said they were feeling on top of the world.
“We are full of excitement as we are back to playing cricket again after a long time. We hope to make the nation proud,” he said.
