ZIMBABWE will look to bring an end to their losing streak when they clash with Bangladesh in the first One Day International cricket match at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka this morning.
The Chevrons have not won an ODI since they suffered a shock three-run defeat to the United Arab Emirates at Harare Sports Club during the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup Qualifier in March. Since then, the Chevrons were beaten 5-0 at home by Pakistan and recently suffered a 3-0 series loss to South Africa in the neighbouring country.
Zimbabwe made a losing start to their tour of Bangladesh when they lost by eight wickets to the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI last Friday.
Skipper Hamilton Masakadza top scored with 102 while former captain Elton Chigumbura made 47, with the two senior batsmen putting on 124 for the sixth wicket.
It was a terrible day with the bat for the Chevrons with no other batsmen reaching double figures, something that should be a cause for concern for coach Lalchand Rajput.
The batting was a headache for Rajput during the tour of South Africa as those tasked with scoring the runs did not stay long enough at the crease to execute their duties.
Masakadza, Solomon Mire, Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Tarisai Musakanda, Peter Moor and Chigumbura have to be at their best if Zimbabwe are to post a competitive total.
The bowlers did well in South Africa and should continue with their brilliant job of putting the opposition batsmen under pressure. Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chatara, Donald Tiripano and Brandon Mavuta were in magnificent form in South Africa with the quartet expected to lead the bowling attack. Left arm spinner Wellington Masakadza and off break bowler John Nyumbu are the other slow bowling options should there be a need to go with two spinners in today’s match.
