MUSIC lovers are spoilt for choice tonight as there are two major shows: one lined up at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex where Alick Macheso, Peter Moyo, Jah Prayzah and Tryson Chimbetu are expected to perform while at Pamuzinda Highway Xcape, Suluman Chimbetu, Peter Moyo, Extra Kwazvose and Dembo Brothers will share the stage.
Both gigs is have a sungura and dendera flair.
At the Aquatic Complex, sungura will be represented at the highest level by Alick Macheso, who is undoubtedly the most experienced musician among the contingent billed to perform while at Pamuzinda Peter Moyo and Extra Kwazvose will certainly give sungura fans something to cheer about.
The great divide in the dendera genre sees Suluman at Pamuzinda and Tryson at the Aquatic Complex.
Macheso is expected to play some of the songs from his forthcoming album set for release before the end of this year. Macheso will be supported by youthful musicians.
One of them, Jah Prayzah, is a musician in a league of his own and has managed to steal the hearts of many with his unique genre which is a fusion of traditional mbira, sungura, reggae and jazz.
These shows have finally managed to divide the two previous inseparables, Suluman Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah, with the former performing at Pamuzinda.
Tryson Chimbetu will be one of the legends in Chitungwiza churning from his album “Compass” which has been received very well by fans and he is now proving to have matured in the industry.
Moyo has been caught in-between as he is billed to perform in both shows and it remains to be seen how he intends to juggle the ball.
The Young Igwe has managed to keep his father’s legacy alive and with his own new album “Mushonga Mukuru”, he is proving that he can hold his own in the industry.
The Pamuzinda show should not be dismissed as a non event with Suluman Chimbetu, Extra Kwazvose and the Dembo Brothers in the mix.
Suluman, who is no doubt a big player in the dendera genre, is expected to give a good account of himself when he meets his local fans, before touring South Africa for two weekend shows.
For Extra Kwazvose, it will be a show to prove that leaving their former “bosses” Alick Macheso and Suluman Chimbetu was not a mistake.
First, they are fighting to win the hearts of the fans at the same time trying to prove their critics wrong and their former bosses that they can be their own bosses.
Fans at Pamuzinda should also look forward to Barura Express fronted by Morgan and Tendai Dembo. The two brothers are struggling to live up to their father’s legendary status and there are visible signs that they are maturing each day with their polished performances.
