Chibero celebrates 50th anniversary

of activities to commemorate its Golden Jubilee.
In an interview on Tuesday, deputy group chief executive officer of Farmers World Holdings, Mr Thomas Nherera, said these activities would be aimed at increasing awareness of the college’s contribution to national development.
“We have already started working on the activities and on May 7 we are going to hold a field day.
“Our mission on this day is to give farmers a chance to showcase their products and show that Chibero is a reputable training institution,” he said.
He said the field day will act as a base for support to agriculture education in terms of material, technical skills and leadership.
“The college is going to avail scholarships to a number of students. Three more field days will be conducted during the course of the year to enable people to learn what we have been doing for the past 50 years.”
Dr Robbie Mupawose, who was the first black lecturer at the institution, said Zimbabwe had the potential to be one of the major agricultural players in the world.
The institution offers a three-year agriculture diploma with subjects covering engineering and animal and crop husbandry.
Chibero produces an average of 40 graduates per year.
