Chibuku Cup: Bulawayo Chiefs start title defence with Bosso showdown

BULAWAYO Chiefs FC will on Sunday start the campaign to defend their Chibuku Super Cup title when they play against Highlanders FC in a thrilling showdown at Barbourfields Stadium.

In cup battles, the present form and historical narratives cannot be ignored hence both teams have equal chances of winning.

Highlanders’ visionary tactician, Baltemar Brito, has unveiled their resolute ambition to seize every glittering cup within their grasp throughout this season.

“At the beginning of the season, the preparations and mindset were to improve from the last season. The responsibility to be champions with almost the same squad is a big challenge. Everyone knows that we are competing and we are doing well but the other clubs are well-resourced and investment in other clubs is higher than ours. Our target and our mindset since the beginning of the season have been improving from last season.

“About the cup, if coaches come to work at Highlanders and don’t behave professionally and are not winning the games, they should be fired. We are here and don’t want to be fired so we are preparing for the games to win. If we continue to win we can make it three, the Uhuru Cup, the Chibuku Super Cup and the league title,” said Brito.

The impending clash is further enkindled by the tinderbox of the Bulawayo derby, an electrifying dance of destiny that Bosso embarks upon driven by an undertone of vengeance having tasted the bitterness of defeat at the hands of their very adversaries last season at the quarter-final stage.

Today, Harare giants Dynamos take on Simba Bhora at Barbourfields Stadium in a match that promises to be explosive while Chicken Inn take on Green Fuel at Luveve Stadium.
