THE much-awaited Chibuku Neshamwari Manicaland provincial finals slated for Dzonzai Beerhall in Chipinge will roar to life tomorrow (Saturday), with 10 groups expected to battle it out.
The groups are drawn from Manicaland’s seven districts and will battle it out in a contest that is usually characterised with emotions, tension and fierce rivalry.
National Arts Council Manicaland regional manager, Carol Makoni said everything is in place for the finals.
“The preparations for the provincial contest are going on well, and we are happy that participating groups are showing enthusiasm. Although we are yet to fully compile the final list of groups that will be participating, I can confirm that a total of 10 teams will be part of this year’s contest.
“The competition will be a notch higher than last year. Seasoned groups, some of which had taken a sabbatical following the Covid-19 pandemic, have since joined the fray. We expect to make history again after last year’s successful feat,” said Makoni.
She added that the venue was an ideal place for such a contest.
“Without taking anything away from local venues, Dzonzai Beerhall is a tried and trusted venue with facilities suitable for an event of that magnitude.
Dzonzai Beerhall, which is a ceremonial home of traditional dance, is set to host yet another potentially-explosive competition.
ln 2017, Manicaland Association of Chartered Career Artistes (Macca) pulled a shocker and proved critics wrong after they out-danced nine other groups to clinch the title.
It was an emotionally-filled contest as every group deserved to win.
This year, the overall winner will proceed to the national finals and compete with other provincial representatives in Masvingo.
Post Entertainment has gathered that a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services traditional dance group, Chivaraidze, from Chipinge, Wadyemhembwe from Buhera, Marymount Teachers’ College from Mutare and Dhumatasangana from Mutare, are some of the groups that will be performing at this year’s event.
Mutare-based traditional dance group, Dapurahunanzva, did the province proud when they came out tops in the national competitions last year.
