ZIMBABWEAN professional golfer Biggie Chibvuri, who finished among the best-placed local players at the recent FBC Zimbabwe Open Golf Championship in Harare, said he has put the event behind him and is now looking forward to upcoming golf competitions in the region.
Chibvuri will be among the troupe of local players that will make the short trip to Zambia in the coming week for the Zambia Golf Open.
The former Hillside and Zimbabwe amateur player spent the greater part of last year taking part in the West Africa Tour, as he was residing in Ghana.
He was excited by his performance in the Zimbabwe Open where he managed to finish the tournament tied on position 18.
“After my performances at the FBC Zimbabwe Open Golf Championship, I am now looking forward to the Zambia Golf Open which is next on the Sunshine Tour.
“The Zimbabwe Open gave me the much-needed composure going into the new season. As the first tournament on the Sunshine Tour and finishing in the top 20 gives me confidence and I am going to continue working hard.
“The game went on well. After I made a 71 and a 72 in the opening two rounds, I was looking forward to improving but a two-over on the third day saw me drop.
“The last round, I managed to bounce back with a one-under, and to finish tied with seasoned campaigners like Jean Hugo, Mathew Spacey, Stefan Wears-Taylos and MJ Viljoen, was amazing.
“My next target is to play in the Zambia Open which is the next tournament on the card. The tournament went on well and I was astonished by the support I got from friends’ back home.
“It has been a long time since I last played at Royal Harare and the course was playing so well. I managed to get some experience in West Africa where I spent almost four seasons.
“The level of competition was very high and I am happy with the way some local players performed. “We were expecting many players to make the cut and I think there was an improvement after last year’s performances,” said Chibvuri.
Kieran Vincent was the best local player at three-under after rounds of 72, 71, 70 and 72 for a total 285 to finish tied on position six.
South African Neil Schietekat won the tournament with an impressive 11 under-par total 277 after he carded scores of 67, 69, 66 and 75 to run away with the title.
