Just like the pairing in the final atthe National Sports Stadium, Chixken Inn’ clash against Monoz is a dress rehearsal of their league meeting at Luveve two days later.

Mpofu’s Gamecoks have already bagged the NetOne Charity Shield and the youthful coach said they had made it their bid to challenge for any medal that would be offer this season.

“It is an honour to play in the Independence tournament. We are celebrating our freedom and we are ready to play and celebrate by winning. We have already won the Charity Shield so we would want to win the third place final.

“Wherever there is a medal, we would want to make it a point to play and win it.
“We are fielding our strongest side and we know we would be playing them again after two days so we have to do well and come up with the best teams in both matches.

“These two games are really important to us,” said Mpofu.
A youthful Chicken Inn seem to be continuing from where they left last year displaying a good brand of football which left many neutrals charmed last week in their match against FC Platinum at Mandava.

Mpofu, believes the team, would be able to produce that good performance which was broadcast on SuperSport , this afternoon and urged all soccer loving people to come and watch.

“l believe it was one of our best games so far and the players were knocking the ball around with so much confidence but unfortunately we lost and the result doesn’’t show that. We hope many people will come and enjoy good football.

“People are saying we are gunning for the championship judging by the way we are performing, and we don’’t mind that, we just want to do well this season and finish in the top four,” said Mpofu.

The team welcomes backs their skipper Felix Chindungwe who was injured but has recovered but they will miss Thabani Goredema who is still on the sidelines with an injury.
For Monomotapa, the Uhuru Cup match will provide them with an opportunity to try and get a positive result following an inconsistent start to the season where they have won two out of four matches.

Coach Biggie Zuze has had to rebuild a new team follwing an exodus of players but the former Dynamos midfield workhorse is confident that they will have a fruitful trip to Bulawayo.

“We are taking this match seriously as we will meet again on Saturday. We want a good result which should boost our confidence as we have not been getting good results.
“We lost our last match and they also lost to FC Platinum and would want to win at all costs but we are prepared,” said Zuze.

Zuze said they feel honoured to play in the Independence Cup tournament although they would have loved to start in the semi finals and seek for a place in the final.
Last year’s top four clubs had to begin at the final stage as time could no longer allow for the matches to be staged from the semi-finals.

Zuze, whose charges had a tremendous season last year, conceded that his outfit is not yet enjoying that form but should gel with a bit of time.
“In football, you have to accept it that at times you cannot get good results. We have been playing well and at times luck was just not on our side. At the same time we can also factor in the fact that we lost some players but the new guys will deliver and just need to gel in with the team.
