CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League leaders Chicken Inn were yesterday drawn against Air Force of Zimbabwe side Chapungu in the quarter-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup. In the draw conducted in Gweru by Chibuku brand manager Karen Dhliwayo, holders FC Platinum face Dynamos, Triangle play against Harare City and ZPC Kariba will battle it out with How Mine.

The matches will be played on the weekend of September 19 and 20 at venues yet to be announced. FC Platinum will play Dynamos twice in seven days as the two teams meet in a league match at Mandava Stadium tomorrow. Triangle will also play Harare City twice in a row as they are scheduled to clash in a league match on the weekend of September 26/27.

Speaking soon after the draw, Chapungu vice-chairman Ackroid Moyo vowed to turn the tables on the Gamecocks in the country’s premier knock-out tournament after losing their two league encounters. “It’s going to be interesting because we have played Chicken Inn twice already and lost both matches in the league. The Chibuku Super Cup is our only opportunity to beat them this year,” said Moyo.

Joey Antipas described the draw as “tough” but was confident his side would advance to the semi-finals. “The last eight is always difficult because all the teams have faced one another. We have faced Chapungu twice and they know how we play. Therefore, it is a tough draw for us but I hope we will go past the quarter-final stage,” said Antipas.

FC Platinum media liaison officer Chido Chizondo expressed confidence that they would defend the trophy. “It’s always tough to play against Dynamos for any side, but we are confident that we will come out with a good result. Our aim is to return to the African safari and it is important that we go all the way in the Chibuku Super Cup. Our destiny is in our hands,” she said.

The platinum miners bowed out of the Caf Confederations Cup in the second round after losing to Tanzania’s Young Africans. PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele thanked the sponsors Delta Beverages saying the competition had brought excitement to football fans.
