FAST foods chain, Chicken Slice, a division of Packers International would be opening shop in Bulawayo soon in a major move set to increase competition among players in the sector. The giant firm which is already running several successful ventures in places such as Mvuma and Harare, announced its move to set up business in Bulawayo yesterday.
“Bulawayo branch opening soon at corner Fort Street and 9th Avenue”, screamed the notice that was accompanied by a comic vernacular statement “umkhwenyana uqobo uyabuya le…Chicken Slice”, loosely translated (a real son-in-law will bring Chicken Slice).
The company will have to battle it out for customers with Innscor’s Chicken Inn, Creamy Inn, Bakers’ Inn, Nando’s, Steers and other smaller fast foods operators like “Chip n Roll’” Slice Pizzeria, Food Express, Emlanjeni.
Chicken Slice opened its first outlet on May, 1, 2010 along Harare-Masvingo Highway in Mvuma.
The brand comprises Chicken Slice, Creamy Slice, Pizza Slice and Slice Express.
Last year the firm was given a service award at the Sadc annual quality awards ceremony held in Luanda, Angola.
Packers International proprietor and chief executive officer Tawanda Mutyebere received the award on behalf of Chicken Slice.
The company made it to the regional quality awards after winning the national quality awards (large enterprise) hosted by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) last year.
Mutyebere, an accomplished musician as well, has won the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce entrepreneur of the year award for the Midlands province twice.
The awards have placed the fast food outlet among the best rated service providers in the sub-region.
