NORTHERN Region Soccer League (NRSL) side, Chinhoyi-based Rangers Football Club, has been rocked by reports that its president and benefactor, Mr Thomas Chidzomba, has stepped down from his post.

The development, which surfaced last week, has left supporters speculating over the reasons behind the move, as Chidzomba is yet to publicly explain his decision.

Chidzomba was instrumental in restructuring the club and rebranding it from Chinhoyi Rangers last year, laying the foundation for its current setup.

Under his stewardship, the club made a high-profile acquisition by bringing in former Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder Willard Katsande, who had been based in South Africa.

However, the team is still searching for its first victory of the season. Rangers FC has managed four draws and suffered two defeats in their opening six matches.

Their struggles continued yesterday with a 1-0 loss to Banket United, deepening concerns among fans.

The team’s poor run of form has sparked debate among supporters, with some linking the dip in performance to Chidzomba’s reported resignation and possible financial challenges.

In a video circulating on social media, however, Chidzomba clarified that he has only stepped down from his role as president and remains committed to supporting the club.

“I will remain a supporter of the team, although I am stepping down as president. I will continue to render my assistance,” he said.

Sources also indicated that the club has been facing financial constraints, with reports that it struggled to raise match officials’ fees for the encounter against Banket United.

Rangers will now be hoping to stabilise both on and off the pitch as they continue their search for a first win of the campaign.
