CHIEF Dakamela of Nkayi, Matabeleland North, has arrived in the United Kingdom as he is scheduled to attend the belated King Mzilikazi Day celebrations set to take place at Bradford on September 13.
This comes after Chief Dakamela was among traditional leaders who were part of the main event of the King Mzilikazi Day celebrations which took place at koMhlahlandlela on 5 and 6 September.
The cultural gathering will allow UK-based Ndebele people, who resonate with the life and legacy of King Mzilikazi, to gather and enjoy at an event which promises to be packed with cultural pride, performances and traditional cuisine.
The Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mohammed Shafiq, will be the guest of honour.
The UK version of the King Mzilikazi Day celebrations, were launched in September 2008, in Pimlico, London.
The idea came after the realisation that there is now a big population of people from Matabeleland in the UK.
Drawing on the expertise of renowned social and cultural activists from Matabeleland and beyond, the main objective of the celebrations is to provide impetus to the renewal of Matabeleland cultural pride so that those who identify with King Mzilikazi can take their rightful place alongside other nations of the world.
