Chief Justice Malaba mourns Justice Mandeya

Chief Justice of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission, Justice Luke Malaba, has issued a condolence message to the Mandeya family following the death of retired Administrative Court Judge, Justice Herbert Mandeya.

The late Justice Mandeya died on 4 October at Westend Hospital in Harare following an illness.

“The Chief Justice of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission, Honourable Justice Luke Malaba; the Judicial Service Commissioners; the Senior Judge of the Administrative Court; judges and magistrates; the Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission; and all members of the Judicial Service would like to express their deepest condolences to the Mandeya family on the death of Retired Administrative Court Judge, Honourable Justice Herbert Mandeya,” said Chief Justice Malaba in a statement.

Justice Mandeya was appointed Judge of the Administrative Court on 26 May 2009, a position he held until his retirement in 2024.

He studied law at the University of South Africa, graduating with a Bachelor of Law Studies degree in 1986. In 1991, he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Zimbabwe.

Justice Mandeya was sworn in as a magistrate in 1988 and rose through the ranks to become a Regional Magistrate in April 1998. He served as the Chief Magistrate of Zimbabwe from 2005 to 2009 before his elevation to the Administrative Court bench.

Mourners are gathered at Number 339 Gletwin Road, Gletwin, in Harare.

Burial arrangements are yet to be finalised.
