Chief Justice to officially open National Magistrates’ Conference in Bulawayo

Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza is expected to officially open and preside over the 2026 National Magistrates’ Conference in Bulawayo on Friday.

The two-day gathering set to focus on strengthening the competency of magistrates, promoting their well-being and enhancing effective justice delivery.

The conference will be held under the theme: “Competency, Well-being and Effective Justice Delivery in the Magistracy.”

The conference is set to bring together magistrates from across Zimbabwe and other key stakeholders in the justice delivery sector to deliberate on ways of improving the administration of justice and enhancing the efficiency of the magistracy.

Participants are expected to exchange ideas and share experiences on issues affecting the lower courts, while exploring strategies to strengthen professional competence, uphold ethical standards and promote the welfare of judicial officers.

Discussions are also expected to focus on judicial wellness, professional development and best practices in case management, which are key to ensuring timely, efficient and accessible justice for all Zimbabweans.

The National Magistrates’ Conference is one of the judiciary’s flagship annual forums, providing an opportunity for magistrates to review progress, address emerging challenges within the justice system and align their work with the broader vision of an efficient, independent and people-centred judiciary.
