Chief Justice Luke Malaba will today preside over the official opening of the 2024 Legal Year to allow litigation processes in superior courts across the country.

The ceremony will take place at the Constitutional Court in Harare and other similar ceremonies will be held in Bulawayo, Chinhoyi, Mutare and Masvingo.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) secretary, Walter Chikwanha, stated that the event marked the beginning of the legal calendar and reminded litigants that they could now approach the superior courts for the first term.

The ceremony will be graced by officials from the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, JSC, Law Society of Zimbabwe and various Government officials.

The JSC will also host an annual Chief Justice’s Dinner in Harare where long-serving members will be honoured.

Among those to be honoured by the JSC are judges, magistrates and JSC general staff members who have served for more than 30 years.

The dinner will be attended by Acting President Constantino Chiwenga and Vice President Kembo Mohadi.
