THE Godlwayo community will tomorrow commemorate the installation of Chief Dambisamahubo Mafu with the first commemoration event to be held at Nhlangano Village in Godlwayo.
Ward 9 village head, Mr Calven Ncube, who is the event co-ordinator said the event would be held at Nhlangano Chief Maduna Hall (NCM) in Ward 9.
Chief Mafu was installed by President Mnangagwa on April 15 last year following the death of his father, Chief Vezi Maduna Mafu in February 2021.
In an interview, Mr Ncube said because some villagers could not attend Chief Mafu’s installation ceremony last year, it is necessary to hold recurring commemorative events so that everyone gets an opportunity to interact with the chief.
He said the community is proud of its rich history and the event helps to revive Godlwayo culture.
Mr Ncube said preparations were now at an advanced stage with two beasts and three goats having been put aside for slaughtering on the day.
“We anticipate that approximately 600 people will attend this event. We’ll be hosting various activities from both traditional and religious perspectives. Several poets have also confirmed that they would be at the event.
“The rotational annual event will be held in different parts of Godlwayo, however, in certain circumstances, the Chief will call for the event to be held at his Kingdom Culture Centre,” said Mr Ncube.
The chief’s secretary for Ward 9 Mr Sikhathele Nsingo said Chief Mafu is a ground-level man who regularly visits his subjects.
He underscored the importance of unity saying this initiative would go a long way in strengthening a sense of oneness among the Godlwayo community.
“We can certainly state that we love our Chief because he supports us during good times and bad, which is why we are calling for this event to be remembered. Our goals are to uplift the Godlwayo culture and fortify our oneness,” said Mr Nsingo.
