ACTING Chief Zimunya’s aide, Never Chikunda, popularly known as Muhwezva, was on Sunday humiliated before the court after being charged with fraud.
He was instructed to immediately reimburse the additional $280 he had demanded and received from the Mandioma family.
It emerged that during an official court business trip to consult a traditional healer in Mozambique, Muhwezva swindled members of the Mandioma family of an extra $280.
The Mandioma family had appeared before Chief Zimunya last year in November for counsel over witchcraft accusations in the family.
Muhwezva claimed that the additional $280 was a supplementary charge that had been demanded by the traditional healer.
However, it was revealed that the traditional healer was summoned by Chief Zimunya in secret and refuted claiming any additional money.
On the contrary, Chief Zimunya had instructed the Mandioma family to look for $200, which included $30 for his aide, the group’s travel expenses and payment for the services of the traditional healer.
He instructed Muhwezva to sell his beasts and reimburse the Mandioma family immediately and also assured the court he would enforce further unspecified punishment on the aide.
“You are expected to be my envoy when we send you with people on official business. We will talk later about the other punishment, but I expect you to sell your beasts and immediately repay the Mandioma family. Your job is to guide families and control them during trips, not to be their go-between or negotiator,” said Chief Zimunya.
He also urged the community to always seek clarification from his court after consultation visits to avoid such deceptive incidents.
