Cape Town – Steve Komphela firmly believes that Kaizer Chiefs are still very much in the mix to challenge for Premiership honours this season.

Amakhosi drew 2-2 with a fired up Baroka in Polokwane on Saturday, with the Limpopo team twice coming from behind to snatch a point.

Komphela admits a maximum point haul would have been ideal, but with the Glamour Boys only three points behind pace-setters FC Cape Town, he is content to be in the chasing pack for the time being.

“It is crunch time in the league and every point is important. We will remain calm. The league is far from decided. We will never give up,” he told the Chiefs website.

The Soweto giants’ next league assignment is against Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 1 April.

With nine matches still to play this season for Amakhosi, Komphela says every point could be crucial.

“There are still a lot of games to play. It’s only that you don’t want to drop points at a crucial time when everyone wants three points,” he was quoted saying by the Star.

“You can’t go into a give up mode just because we drew. We still have matches to play. It would be very naive of us to think that the league is gone. We never give up,” he added. – Sport24.
