Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo has applauded traditional leaders for the important role they play in society.
Advocate Ndudzo made the remarks during the Mashonaland East Provincial Traditional Leaders Day held at Chief Ruzane’s homestead in Hwedza district on Friday.
The event, organised by the Zimbabwe National Army, drew traditional leaders from across Mashonaland East as well as Government officials from the province.
The annual event is held in recognition of the important role played by traditional leaders in society as well as the important role played by the military, which includes maintaining peace and stability in the country.
The event was held under the theme “Preserving Our Culture and Heritage for National Building Towards Sustainable Development.”
“The theme of today’s gathering, “Preserving Our Culture and Heritage for National Building Towards Sustainable Development,” is a timely reminder of our collective responsibility,” he said.
“Our traditions are not merely relics of the past; they are the living, breathing framework upon which we can build a prosperous and sustainable future.
“By safeguarding our heritage, we invest in a resilient social order, foster inclusive economic growth, and ensure that our development is both meaningful and enduring.
“Allow me once again to express our profound gratitude to our esteemed Chiefs for honouring this important day with your presence. Your leadership remain the bedrock of our communities. We are particularly grateful to our lead organiser, the Zimbabwe National Army, for making this Chiefs Day possible and for its unwavering commitment to peace, unity and national development.”
Mashonaland East Provincial Chief’s Assembly chairperson, Chief Nechombo, saluted the army for organising the event, as well as their role in uplifting people’s livelihoods.
“We want to thank you for the peace that prevails across Zimbabwe. We also want to commend you for the developments that are happening not only in our province but across Zimbabwe, where the army is involved in the construction of schools and clinics.
“You are also involved in many programmes that are aimed at transforming people’s livelihoods. Our wish is for us traditional leaders and the army to continue working together in unity as we develop our beautiful nation as well as in preserving our culture.
“We also implore the army to assist us in fighting drug and substance abuse from our communities.”
