Chiefs in Mashonaland Central are set to incorporate information communication technology in their case management systems after receiving laptops during this year’s Traditional Leaders Day.
Twenty-eight Chiefs received laptops from Canterbury Mine in Shamva to enhance their case archives and records during traditional court sessions.
The Traditional Leader Day, organised by the Zimbabwe National Army, was held at Chief Bushu’s homestead in Shamva on Thursday.
Chief Bushu said it was important for traditional leaders to move with the times while also not losing sight of their traditional values.
“It is now time to keep up with modernisation while preserving our traditional values. These laptops bring us closer to the younger generation and improve wisdom,” he said.

Canterbury company secretary, Mr Samuel Rusike, said they have set aside a fund for computer literacy training for the chiefs and their secretaries.
“We are going to engage the Judiciary Service Commission and Ministry of Information so that the chiefs are trained on how to integrate their traditional court systems with technology,” he said.
“ICT is important to the attainment of vision 2030, and we decided to take technology to the grassroots to the chiefs where development starts.”
