Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe has reiterated the importance of recapitalisation of local authorities to ensure world-class service delivery to the people.
He was speaking while commissioning utility vehicles bought by Murehwa Rural District Council, in Murehwa on Thursday.
He also handed over 39 motorbikes to councilors and urged them to use them for council-related work.
“Equipment recapitalisation is a key driver in the achievement of the National Development Strategy 1,” he said.
“Deployment of the equipment will significantly impact on the level of service delivery by the council.
“Today as I am handing over the 39 motorbikes to councilors, this will enhance their mobility in their respective wards, resulting in the effective and efficient coordination of developmental activities throughout the 30 administrative wards of Murehwa.”

The equipment includes a vibratory roller, water bowser, backhoe loader, and a refuse compactor.
The minister also commissioned four Nissan NP200 bakkies as well as two Nissan Navara pickups.
The event was attended by Government officials who included the Secretary for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mr Tavabarira Kutamahufa, who commended council for buying the equipment.
“We are happy as a province to see a local authority acquiring such equipment to ensure there is an improved service delivery. This is what we call a responsible governance, a people-centric governance which is Vision 2030 compliant,” he said.
