Chiefs move to Byo

ZIFA Southern Region Division One champions, Plumtree Chiefs have shifted base from the border town to Bulawayo following their promotion to the Premiership last season.
The shift by the Thulani Sibanda-coached side will bring to four the number of Premiership teams in Bulawayo, the highest number of elite teams in any city in the country. Plumtree Chiefs join giants Highlanders, Chicken Inn and How Mine.

The outfit failed to fulfil their hopes of plying their trade in Plumtree after realising that the move would be costly.
Plumtree Chiefs had tabled an offer to build a new stadium there before the start of the season but have since decided to do so over five years.

Plumtree Chiefs secretary general Dumisani Mantula Sibanda confirmed their stay in the city, but assured the people of Plumtree that the move is temporary.

“We have decided to move to Bulawayo for now and we are still deciding which stadium to use,” said Sibanda.
He said now their main priority is to keep the team afloat and survive the relegation in their maiden season.

Sibanda said their academy would be based in Plumtree to assure the community that the team still belongs to them.
