BULAWAYO Chiefs celebrated their first victory of the season at Luveve when a late strike from substitute Arthur Musiyiwa earned them maximum points against visiting Manica Diamonds. A tepid match saw both sides struggling to find the back of the net and taking turns to miss chances. Musiyiwa then stepped up to the plate, scoring a minute before the end and securing the much needed victory.
Chiefs coach Farai Tawachera was delighted with the win but expressed caution in celebrating, saying they still have a long way to go in terms of lifting themselves out of the relegation zone.
“Thank God for the win. ln most of our games, we have been conceding soft goals. We played well today, I think the several changes we made – bringing in Liberty and Desire (Shumbanevata) paid off for us.”
Chiefs will be looking at bolstering their squad during the mid-season transfer window. Tawachera feels there is still a lot of work to be done, particularly in improving his team’s precision in front of goal.
Manica Diamonds coach, Luke “Vahombe” Masomere was scathing in his players’ assessment. Vahombe said his team has been failing to play according to instruction, adding that they are ‘the worst of the PSL’s worst two teams’.
“We played badly from the start and we kept on defending. We didn’t find any creativity in attack. We were actually pathetic and I am at a loss of words to describe how bad we were.
“I keep on talking about it all the time. During this transfer window, I had hoped to recruit some strikers because we are blunt in the final third but unfortunately, our finances don’t allow me to. So I have to work with what I have,” Masomere said.
